OUGD503 // Responsive // Spins and snips

After having success on the first Design crowd competition, i was invited to another competition by the client.

This time is was to design a logo for a dance wear company. The logo would be used on all labelling for the company. The company was called Spins and snips and works around the symmetry of the wording.
They want a type based logo, one which is the full logo name and another which is a monogram of this.

- "Spins & Snips"
- "S & S"

The Brief:

We are looking at creating a logo for our salsa dancewear brand named " Spins & snipS (s&s) " Aim of the brand is to create limited hand made dancewear pieces that doesn't just look unique and trendy but are movement friendly too.

This logo will be used on all our labels. Therefore, we will need the logo "Spins & snipS" together with a monogram " s&s" Placement of the logo and monogram is up to designer.

Aesthetics of the logo:
Aim of the brand is to create limited hand made dancewear pieces that doesn't just look unique and trendy but are movement friendly too.

1 or 2 colours to be used within the logo

Target Audience:
Salsa dancers who wanna look good dancing and pride themselves being above the rest.

After having some thoughts about the logo and jotting some ideas down, i came up within some initial designs for the logo:

insert designs

From this i started to mock them up on Illustrator.
Colour Scheme:
They said that they wanted it to be based towards females and to have an upmarket, bold and modern design. I choose these purples because i believe purple is a very feminine colour, its also associated with being elegant and luxurious, so i think it gives the right qualities to the brand.

This eventually brought me to the 3 designs which I was going to submit to the competition.

All three designs are very similar but slightly different in the design. In all the designs i have used the same two fonts, one being a script and the other helvetica ultralight. I used the script font to show that it is elegant and feminine, also when i think of an upmarket female clothing line, i would associate a script style font, it shows class an d wealth. This script font is more bold than normal and is abit more playful than normal, so it fits in with the aesthetics the client is looking for - a more modern twist on a script font.
The rest of the design is just different placements of each element within it. I think all three designs could be used within a clothing label and tag.
